The Association of Capoeira Engenho da Rainha (ACER) was founded in the 1970s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ACER Cornwall was set up by Instructor Canguru (Craig Blackburn) in January 2004 following extensive training with Professor Rodrigo in London and Mestre Celso in Rio de Janeiro. In 2010 he will host his 4th Batizado (grading) in Cornwall with around 50 students.
Canguru started playing capoeira in 2000. He has lived and worked in Brazil and is fluent in Portuguese. He is also a journalist and personal trainer and he has a CRB enhanced disclosure by Cornwall County Council. As well as adult classes, Canguru also teaches in schools as part of publicly-funded projects.
ACER was founded by Mestre Celso. Today, at almost 70 years of age, Mestre Celso still teaches and plays capoeira, making him one of the oldest active masters in the world. Prof Rodrigo established ACER in London in 2001. As well as Cornwall, ACER has schools in Texas, Lisbon, Rio, London and Greater London.
